Apache Indian Artifact Cradle Board
Dempsey Bylas Jr.
Traditionally used as a method of keeping a baby secure while the mother worked, the cradleboard is still used by many Native American families today. This Genuine Apache Cradle Board comes straight from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. This one was made in the Apache tradition starting with a single curved hoop hand made from a wood sapling. Flat slats of light weight wood are then laid across the hoop creating the backboard. The head cover is made from intricately woven cottonwood branches that create a large arch for protection from the sun. This Cradle Board was then covered in yellow cotton and intricate hand made seed bead work for a vibrant and traditional Native American look. The total length of this one of a kind Apache Cradle Board is 33".
